Jedi in the Hood

Daniel Jones, the founder of the Jedi religion (heavy sigh) is considering legal action after a grocery store wouldn’t allow him to wear a hood while shopping.

But the grocery empire struck back, claiming that the three best known Jedi Knights in the Star Wars movies – Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker – all appeared in public without their hoods.

The store, Tesco, seems to be very reasonable and good-natured about all of this. Jones, however, comes off as kind of an attention-starved douche.

Brian Crecente tackles The Force Unleashed:

What makes The Force Unleashed such a pleasant surprise to play isn’t really the gameplay, but how it taps into the wealth of existing Star Wars lore and history. There is, in the game, a level that has you playing through the Death Star. The gameplay and the puzzles you have to solve to get through this portion of the game are fun in their own right. But what makes this level so amazing is how it also manages to give you a sort of behind the scenes tour of an object so iconic to Star Wars.

• The Force Unleashed

The demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed hit XBox Live last Thursday, and I finally got around to playing through it last night. The developers were smart to give us an easy level with a lot of familiar elements. Skipping over any hints of the prequel trilogy, the demo finds Starkiller surrounded by Imperial soldiers and technology. The controls, while strange at first in the hands of someone more used to Mario Kart, quickly grew on me. The Force powers are cool to watch and fun to execute, and there’s a strange satisfaction in taking down TIE Fighters by throwing Stormtroopers at them.

I’ve been on the fence about whether I should pick this game up for the Wii or the 360. The Wii version will come with an exclusive lightsaber duel mode and some changes to the levels, as well as the Force and lightsaber waggle controls. Sadly, there’s no true 1:1 lightsaber fighting. The XBox 360 version, however, will show off the game’s details in high-definition, and the 360′s processing power makes for a more natural fit for the Havok physics engine.

TimesOnline has an interesting interview with George Lucas.

“If I can come up with another idea that they like, we’ll do another. Really, with the last one, Steven wasn’t that enthusiastic. I was trying to persuade him. But now Steve is more amenable to doing another one. Yet we still have the issues about the direction we’d like to take. I’m in the future; Steven’s in the past. He’s trying to drag it back to the way they were, I’m trying to push it to a whole different place. So, still we have a sort of tension. This recent one came out of that. It’s kind of a hybrid of our own two ideas, so we’ll see where we are able to take the next one.”

One gets the distinct impression that Lucas is the man behind the terrible ending of Crystal Skull. How does 1977 George Lucas turn into 2008 George Lucas? All of the years between, I suppose.
