Kim Peek — the man who inspired Dustin Hoffman’s character in Rain Man — has passed away.

He was born in 1951 in Salt Lake City and doctors diagnosed him as severely mentally retarded and advised his parents to place him in an institution.

Yet he learned to read and could read eight books a day, committing large sections of text to memory. He could read two pages simultaneously, his left eye reading the left page and his right eye reading the right page.

Following up on the super hot rumor that Obama uses a Zune, MacUser shares news from the Wall Street Journal (seriously?) that our next President is, in fact, an iPod user.

Why was this ever a story? I mean, we already know he uses a MacBook Pro. How would he even sync a Zune? Sheesh.

Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas has a fantastic idea: a moratorium on income tax for January and February.

“Think about how much you would have if you didn’t have any social security or income tax withheld from your pay check, or if you didn’t have to pay those taxes for January and February! Americans could take and invest their own money where they believe it should go – to paying down mortgages, buying a new car, making credit card payments.”

You should write your local Congressperson and tell them you support this idea.

Seven years later, airport security theater is an inconvenient joke, international relations are disconcertingly poor, the dollar is dropping, we’re engaged in an expensive and unjust war, and the site of this tragedy remains an empty and ignored hole in the ground. Worst of all, the man responsible continues to walk free.

Yet the best way we can come up with to honor those who died is to replay the footage of their deaths and mindlessly wave flags once a year. God bless America.
