Apple Says No to Royalty Hike

From AppleInsider:

Acccording to Fortune, the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) in Washington, D.C. is expected to rule Thursday on a proposal from the National Music Publishers’ Association to raise the rates paid to its members on songs purchased from digital services like iTunes from 9 cents to 15 cents a track.

Apple doesn’t want to end up eating the cost, and naturally, neither do the record labels.  Two questions:

  1. Why are bands still signing crappy record contracts?
  2. How is this any of the government’s business?
