No Hard Drive for Nintendo
Nintendo gives an emphatic middle finger to hard drives, and claims to be working on something better. This probably either means that they’re being pedantic about the definition of a hard drive (”it’s all flash memory, so technically…”) or they plan to leverage the synergies of the cloud paradigm and do a “virtual” drive.
Pop quiz: Reggie has a problem. Reggie has downloaded a lot of Wii games and content, and intends to download more, but only has enough room on his built-in flash ROM for a few games. What should Reggie do?
- Flail his arms wildly
- Release a software update that allows for the use of external hard drives via the USB port
- Design and release his own hard drive
- Dump money and research into something exactly like a hard drive, but isn’t a hard drive
