• How I Wound Up With iPhone Number Seven

As of last night, I am enjoying my seventh iPhone.  How have I managed to go through so many?

  1. My first iPhone was a 4GB purchased on launch day.  It was given to my girlfriend when
  2. I purchased an 8GB iPhone, which had a number of problems with the screen.  Apple gave me
  3. a new one which worked perfectly.  However, on a trip to Virginia, I set it in one of those speaker docks to let it charge for a moment.  The speakers popped when I connected the phone, and the screen went blank.  After driving an hour to the nearest Apple Store in D.C., the genius bar determined that the phone was completely dead, and gave me
  4. a brand new 8GB as a replacement.  This phone worked very well until
  5. I bought a new 16GB iPhone 3G.  Of course, all they had was white.  I noticed that this one was dropping calls in strange places, even when I turned 3G off.  Another trip to the Apple Store yeilded
  6. a replacement white 16GB iPhone 3G.  One small problem.  Apple called me the next day to let me know that they had somehow managed to forget to charge me for the first 3G phone.  This sounded great until they told me that my phone would be deactivated if I didn’t pay.  More importantly I wouldn’t have AppleCare on it.  Best of all, they couldn’t just charge me, they had to give me a new phone.  For my trouble, they gave me
  7. a black 16GB iPhone 3G from their “emergency stock.”  Every store has a small stockpile of 3G iPhones in the back room, to be used only in emergency cases.
